A Chinese proverb says ‘Gold cannot be pure, and people cannot be perfect’ but does this mean that we should not aim for perfection. Definitely not. The intent of these numerous quotations on perfection is to prevent a person from getting discouraged if he or she does not achieve perfection. Thus Confucius says ‘Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without’ asking us to have a quest for perfection. It is only this quest that makes the journey from pebble to diamond possible.
I personally like things to be perfect and strive for perfection in anything I do. I really do not care whether this quest for perfection is right or wrong because I do it because I like to do it. Of course, sometimes you get irritated when you see things and people around you contradicting your perfect thoughts. This does not mean that you should give up this quest and try to act like the commoners. It is this quest for perfection that distinguishes you from the rest of the world. ‘The quest’ builds a great stamina that helps you to fight the odds in this world. A word of caution though is not to have a mad desire for perfection. There are limits to perfection and one has to realize this fact.
